Hey guys! I truly love sharing my thoughts with you all, and I hope you walk away from each newsletter with a piece of wisdom, inspiration, or at least a smile. Today, I want to share some fascinating insights from Chris Voss's book "Never Split the Difference," my incredible face-to-face encounter with the man himself, and an exciting peek into Netflix's bold move from our screens to our streets. So grab your favorite beverage, get comfy, and let's dive in!
Lessons from "Never Split the Difference" by Chris Voss Sales are usually taught by getting the problem and then replying with a solution. It's very formulaic. It changed my approach to sales and negotiation. As a former FBI hostage negotiator, Voss brings unique insights to the art of persuasion. One key takeaway is the importance of asking "what" and "how" questions to uncover deeper motivations. Instead of pushing for a quick "yes," Voss emphasizes the power of getting the other person to say "that's right." This confirms you truly understand their perspective.
The book taught me to focus on active listening rather than talking. By giving the other person space to express themselves and asking thoughtful follow-up questions, you can build rapport and gain invaluable information. Voss also highlights the effectiveness of mirroring and labeling emotions to create a connection. These techniques have helped me have more meaningful conversations and achieve better outcomes in both professional and personal negotiations. Voss's approach challenges us to evolve our communication skills, asking ourselves, "How can we connect more deeply?" and "What can we learn from each interaction?" This mindset of continuous improvement in how we relate to others is transformative.
I had the incredible opportunity to meet the man himself in person at an event. Chris was brought in to lead a masterclass on negotiation for a group of founders. When it was time to do a mock negotiation I was the lucky one chosen to get paired up with Voss himself! This experience was both terrifying and exhilarating.
During our interaction, I tried to apply the principles from his book. I focused on asking open-ended questions and really listening to his responses. The goal was to get him to say "that's right" - the holy grail of confirmation that I truly understood his position. To my amazement (and relief), I managed to achieve this, earning a “great job” from Voss himself.
This encounter reinforced the power of Voss's techniques. It showed me that even when facing a world-class negotiator, these principles can be effective. The experience gave me confidence in applying these skills in real-world situations, whether in sales conversations or everyday interactions.

While books like Voss's can transform our approach to business and life, the entertainment industry is also evolving in unexpected ways. Get ready to experience your favorite Netflix shows in a whole new way! The streaming giant is taking a bold leap from our screens to our streets with plans to open physical "Netflix House" stores in 2025.
Soon we will be able to walk into a store and shop for "Stranger Things" merchandise, dine on dishes inspired by "Chef's Table," and maybe even try our hand at a "Squid Game" obstacle course because that's exactly what Netflix has in mind with their new innovative concept. These immersive entertainment hubs will blend retail, dining, and interactive experiences, all centered around Netflix's most popular content. It's like stepping into your favorite shows and movies!
While some analysts are excited about this move, others are raising eyebrows. After all, creating magical physical experiences is a whole different ballgame from streaming content. Will Netflix be able to compete with theme park giants like Disney?
This venture comes hot on the heels of other big changes at Netflix, including the infamous password-sharing crackdown and the end of their DVD rental service. It's clear that the company isn't afraid to shake things up as they look for new ways to keep us entertained and engaged.
Love it or hate it, one thing's for sure - Netflix is determined to be more than just an app on your TV. They're aiming to be a part of your world, both online and off. Will you be lining up when the first Netflix House opens its doors? Only time will tell if this bold course of action will be Netflix's next big hit or if they should stick to what they do best - keeping us glued to our couches!
Closing Thoughts
It's exciting to see the innovations companies are making these days. Netflix's big moves into physical spaces shows how even established tech giants are willing to reimagine their business models. What's most inspiring is how these companies and individuals continue to learn, adapt, and push boundaries. They're not content with the status quo – they're always asking, "What's next?" and "How can we do better?"
This spirit of innovation and continuous improvement drives progress in every field. Whether it's entertainment, business strategy, or personal development, there's always room to grow and evolve. As consumers and professionals, we benefit from this forward-thinking approach. It challenges us to stay curious, to keep learning, and to look for new ways to apply fresh ideas in our own lives and work.
In a world that's constantly changing, it's the companies and people who embrace this mindset of perpetual growth that truly stand out. They remind us that there's always another level to reach, another problem to solve, another experience to create. And that's what makes the future so exciting – the possibilities are endless for those willing to innovate and improve.
Until next time ✌️
