For me, 2023 was a year that epitomized the hustle. Every day, a new challenge, a new goal. We've all been there – the endless cycle of meetings, the relentless pursuit of the next big thing, and the unyielding pressure to perform. It's the narrative of modern success – always moving, always achieving. But as this year is wrapping up, I've started to see things differently.
I’ve realized this constant motion isn't sustainable. It's like being at a traffic light stuck on green, but now, it's finally turning yellow. It's not just about stopping; it's about taking a moment to just be. To appreciate the journey thus far and to ponder the road ahead.
We often forget that we're human. That our minds and bodies have limits. The chase – be it for a new role, a promotion, or any form of recognition – takes a toll. It's a lesson I've learned the hard way. Success isn't just measured by achievements; it's also about well-being.
So, as the new year approaches, it's time for a different kind of resolution. Not a drastic transformation, but a gentle shift towards balance. It's about giving myself permission to rest, to recharge, and to reflect.
My new mantra? Slow down. Appreciate the present. Understand that taking a break isn't a sign of weakness, but of wisdom. It's about embracing the yellow light, knowing that a red light is an opportunity, not a hindrance. Slowing down does not mean falling behind.
One of my personal goals is to travel more. There's a whole world out there waiting to be explored. From the historic streets of London to the picturesque landscapes of Italy, travel is not just about seeing new places. It's about experiencing life beyond our routine.
Health is another area I've neglected. There’s a joke we have at Google that when you join the team you gain 15 pounds instantly. We call it the Google 15. Well, I did the Google 60.
It's time to change that. I plan to prioritize my physical and mental well-being. It's not about the number on the scale, but about feeling good, staying strong, and being able to enjoy life to its fullest.
One of the hardest lessons is learning to say no. It's about understanding that your worth isn't defined by how much you do for others. It's okay to put yourself first sometimes. Boundaries are essential for balance.
I've found tools like the Calm app to be incredibly helpful. Whether it's a few minutes of meditation or just jotting down what I'm grateful for each day, these practices have been monumental in managing stress and staying grounded.
Stepping into 2024 is not about becoming a new person overnight. It's about evolving, learning, and growing. It's about making deliberate choices that align with my values and well-being.
I invite you to join me on this journey. Reflect on your own year. What changes do you want to make? How can you create a life that's not just about doing, but also about being?
Let's make 2024 a year of mindful living, where we prioritize our health, embrace new experiences, and learn to appreciate the here and now.
New Year. New me.
